Bloodnick's Carpathian Garlic
Hand selected garlic seed. We grow a red, hard-neck carpathian variety of garlic that is delicious. Great flavor with high sugar, making it caramelize with ease. The cloves are large and easy to peel. Each head yields an average of 10 cloves. With heads that are on average 2.5-3 inches in diameter, we could not be happier with this year's seed stock.
Our seed garlic is treated exactly the same as our cooking garlic, so if you have a few extra cloves after planting - enjoy cooking them!
There are 4-5 heads per pound. (40-50 cloves per pound).

Our planting method:
-Prepare bed with a 2 inch layer of compost in fall before planting. The fluffier the soil, the easier it will be to plant. We incorporate our compost with a rototiller.
-Space cloves 6 inches apart in row and leave 1 foot spacing between rows. We plant three rows per 4 foot bed.
- Plant each clove roughly 3 inches deep. Make sure the flat bottom of the clove is down, pointy side up and that each clove is completely covered with soil.
-We cover our garlic with a 3+ inch layer of straw mulch for the winter. We tease the straw away from the sprouting garlic in the spring, leaving the straw to mulch the beds & paths.
We find that this planting method best suits our growing season & organic practices. The straw helps the soil retain moisture, prevent frost heaving and keeps down weed pressure. It does require us to hand-weed, rather than mechanically cultivate. A trade-off that is better for the soil & microbiome. Though, perhaps worse for your back.
We sell the garlic by the pound. Add the number of pounds that you would like to your shopping cart, then check out.
Thank you!
